Reminds me of the huge wall that surrounds the Drax Estate. We used to go past it on the way to mother's. I used to say 'I wish I had a pound for every brick in that wall!' Takes me back, that does!

Beantighe I don't know if you realise this, but it was that very wall that made me come up with the whole idea of Stonewylde!

That's right, Kit! I remember reading that somewhere. I can still 'see' the huge entrance gateway with the white stags on top - the wall seemed to go on forever! I think it's on the way to Wimborne, isn't it? Or is it Blandford? We used to take the Blandford bypass and turn right at the cross-roads for Salisbury. Goodness, that was some years ago - must be at least 25!

We were living at Puddletown around that time (anyone who knows Dorset will know all the Puddle- and Piddle- names in the Piddle Valley) oh no, missus! Titter ye not! 'Tis true, forsooth!!

Yes it's just outside Wimborne and every time I drive back that way to Weymouth I go past it and smile to myself. How little acorns grow! As for Piddle - last time I was in Dorset I was behind a van advertising a new beer made in the Piddle Valley or something and the slogan was something like "Everyone enjoys a glass of Piddle". Hmmnn!

Drax Stag

Postby Helixroot » Fri Oct 24, 2008 7:24 am

Just a bit of useless local info but the Stag on the large arch over the entrance has 5 legs !

Its got three rear legs so that wherever you look from you can alway see four legs ! Downside if you look carefully as you zoom past you just about make out the extra leg..............................

T'wasn't the rutting season by any chance, was it?

Love that slogan, Kit! :D Doesn't say much for the strength of the beer, though, does it? :D :D
