Pagan Poetry

Postby Esmee » Fri Apr 18, 2008 6:55 pm

Inspired by our resident poet Beantighe I thought I'd start a poetry thread for us to use as an excuse to get our creative juices flowing or just enjoy other people's words. I find poetry to be almost prayer-like at times. Prayer, poetry, chants and mantras all blend together to me :)

I wrote this about three years ago while contemplating the horned god.

Light the fire, beat the drum, feel the heart beat, let it come.

He is the wild, the tangled forest.
The fright of the dear and the fall of the tree.
He's the stink of the beast, the blood on the ground,
The chase and the hunter, the snarl of the hound.

Come with me, cry with me, run with me, die with me,
Freeing your spirit for the Lord of the Dance.

He is the night, the secret hour.
The cry of the wolf and the hoot of the owl.
He's the silence of midnight, the horns of the moon.
The creeping of insects, the shadows and gloom.

Filling you, scaring you, thrilling you, daring you,
Freeing your spirit for the Lord of the Dance.

He is the daylight, the shining sun.
The gold of the corn and the warmth of the air.
He's the ripening fruit, the life in the earth.
The giver and taker of love and of mirth.

Live with me, see with me, give with me, be with me,
Freeing your spirit for the Lord of the Dance.

Light the fire, beat the drum, feel the heart beat, let it come.

That's wonderful Esmee :D I'm so impressed with how many creative people there are on this forum. Sadly my poetry doesn't go beyond "how now, brown cow!"

I loved it, Esmee, it was inspired! Such beautiful description.

Esmee,
that is really very good! Well done!! Silly question maybe, but have you set it to music? I think it would work rather well. Not that I'm offering mind you, I don't have enough time to put the music to my own humble offerings. Actually, that raises another question: I bet we've got more than I few talented musicians who are also Stonewylders - would be interesting to find out!!!
Um sorry folks - I just went off subject again didn't I?!!! I'll start a new thread!

Thank you :)

I'd considered setting it to drumming but not music, it just hadn't crossed my mind... I shall think on that! It's not something I've done before but I've got a Celtic harp sitting over there *points to the corner of the living room* so I may have a little tinkle and see if I can do it! :)
