MPoppins I would also light a candle for you too.

As you said, death does seem to be a taboo subject and I think this is mainly because most people do not know what to say or do when this happens. I can honestly speak from experience here as I spent the first 8 years of my working life working at a funeral directors. My primary role was as an embalmer but I also had to deal with families direct whilst arranging funerals. everyone i arranged funerals with was different and it took a long time for me to get to know how to read people so that I could be more helpful.

If there is anyway i can help (should you need it) then please get in touch.

Swampy, that's a lovely thought, and thank you so much! (((((HUGS)))))

And I do know what you mean about close friends being more like family than family. Friends are the family we choose for ourselves. I'm still learning what that feels like.

I'm lighting a candle for a friend, Natalia, who picked up a very nasty bacteriain her eye, swimming in the sea in Spain this summer. She's just found out today that she needs a corneal transplant, but due to something to do with the blood supply to her eye it'll have a 50/50 chance of success. At the moment she has almost no sight in the damaged eye, so this news pretty much devastated her. :(

Oh, that is terrible for Natalia. I hope the surgery is a success. Do you know when she will have it done?

Thanks for the good wishes everyone.
She has to wait at least another 6 months to allow her eye to heal fully before they will consider the op. What makes it worse is they were planning to get married early next year, thankfully Andy is being a total hero about it all, and not putting any pressure on her. Though he did buy her a sequined eye patch.

And after what she's gone through over the last few months I don't think I'll ever swim in the sea again!
