Postby cornmother » Thu Dec 11, 2008 6:34 pm

Nice piccies, Nikki

Here's our robin, who is always around, mostly in the old tree by the back door.

such lovely piccies :D :D I love robins so much in fact all birdies - at the moment I've got a flock of goldfinches who come every day to eat the seeds of my verbena bonariensis - about 15 of them on one plant - I'll try and get a pic and as for my little wren - ooh I could cuddle her!!!
where the willow weeps tears of diamond
and the oak bleeds pearls of dew
I have often dreamed there....
have you?

Thanks Nikki & CM for posting these, really nice to know I am not the only one obsest with looking out of the window & spend much more time than i should but it's time well spent. Yesterday we had 9 species which is good for here and they were feeding like mad, they know when the weather is changing not having lost their Natural instinct like we have.
And as I type is is snowing in mid Wales :!:

I took this I think last year & may have posted it before but worth another look in case you missed it

the best year we counted 36 goldfinch lined up to feed on the washing line, I could site and watch them for hours

That was one of my favourite photos when you posted it before. They are such dainty little birds, compared with the other finches. Thanks, Birdman!

Birdwatching

Postby cornmother » Thu Dec 11, 2008 10:50 pm

Here's the latest on Little Blimp (the little sparrow with no tail). (Rubbish picture, sorry, folks!). She's still doing fine, whizzing about the place. The loss of her tail feathers doesn't seem to have affected her at all. Another friend said he reckoned she had almost certainly been caught by a cat, and that her feathers will grow back again in due course, but not now, as the autumn moult is long over.

I've made a couple of new friends too. Every morning I'm visited by a squirrel and every evening I'm visited by a fox.
Interestingly both animals are my totems - how odd!

Now I'm thinking of names to give them when I say hello.
